WHOA E14: Cowgirls and Thumbsucker

WHOA E14

This week on WHOA: A Most EXCELLENT Keanu Reeves podcast we watched “Even Cowgirls Get The Blues” from 1993. And “Thumbsucker” from 2005. This is the episode where you are your own spaceship, so you can rescue yourself. And when you do, we hope you have great insurance to cover your elective thumb surgeries and various unscheduled orthodontics appointments. Especially if your orthodontist likes to think of himself as…. more than that.

Spoiler Alert

We are discussing the movies in their entirety. So if you want to know whether Sissy and the Cowgirls save the whooping cranes from the Government, or if Justin gets over the whole thumb thing before going to college, you should probably watch the movies first…

Episode 14 Features

The theme of thumbs…

“Even Cowgirls Get the Blues” from 1993. Keanu is barely in this movie. Seriously. However, he does appear in the clouds at one point… and that’s not nothing. Cowgirls is the story of a hitch hiking drifter with very large thumbs as she journeys from feminine hygiene model to defiant cowgirl.

This movie is extraordinarily hard to find. If you have a certain set of skills, you can probably locate it in the wild wild west of the internet but, alas, I can not guide you on your quest.

In Episode 14 we also cover…

“Thumbsucker” from 2005. Keanu is in this movie exponentially more than in Cowgirls, but it is still a very minor role as Perry Lyman, a very unorthodox Orthodontist. Thumbsucker is the story of a kid with a thumb sucking habit as he journeys from shy kid to bully debater to college student who still sucks his thumb.

Watch “Thumbsucker” on Amazon HERE. It is worth it to see Keanu Reeves as a mysterious hypnotizing hippie Orthodontist.
