Educating [Geeks] S3 E19 – Dune

Frank Herbert’s iconic SciFi novel Dune is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. We invited Matthew and Norm, from Trek.fm, to join us for a discussion of the novel but they ended up re-writing the soundtrack to the 1980s movie — just listen to the podcast and you’ll see what I mean.

*SPOILER ALERT* — We do reveal many book spoilers and do talk a little bit about the 1980s movie and the TV series. If you want to stay fresh, read the book before you listen.

We continue our celebration with Geek [Supplies] next Wednesday and E[G] Drinking Game podcast next Friday.

Years ago I read all 6 books of Dune by Frank Herbert. Now I’m going to have to reread at least the first one. Love the discussion. You brought up the women in the book, which I was glad for that discussion. I’d love another podcast about more of the books.
The book do go into more of the universe and explain some things and add more questions. When Frank Herbert died he left a lot of plot points hanging.
List of Frank Herbert’s Dune books:
    Dune (1965)
    Dune Messiah (1969)
    Children of Dune (1976)
    God Emperor of Dune (1981)
    Heretics of Dune (1984)
    Chapterhouse: Dune (1985)

So the documentary mentioned is; “Jodorowsky’s Dune” 2013 American-French documentary film directed by Frank Pavich.
The comic is “The Incal” by Alejandro Jodorowsky and Jean Giraud. This is the first I’ve heard of this comic book and movie and it’s now in my “Want to read,” and “Want to watch” lists.
